North Huntingdon Township and its Police Department are upgrading from Nixle text and email alerts to a more robust alert notification service known as Everbridge. The upcoming transition is scheduled for July 15th and will include quite a few noticeable changes for residents such as being able to update contact information, subscribe to different non-emergency alerts, and receive push notifications through the Everbridge mobile app.
“We want to improve the level and quality of communication between the Township and our community. We want our residents to feel connected and informed.” says Harry Faulk Township Manager, “a simple way for us to start building that rapport with our community was to pursue a reliable one-stop-shop for notifications and alerts for everything from township events to road closures to disaster and emergency situations.”
Everbridge will also provide a lot of new functionalities and capabilities organizationally, including geofencing, special emergency alerts for life threatening situations, and customizable easy to use templates for different communication methods.
“When it comes to responding to emergency situations, we need to be able to communicate with a lot of people quickly and efficiently to manage those situations effectively” remarked Chief Rizzo “This new system allows us to contact who we need to contact when we need to contact them.”
While all existing Nixle subscribers will be migrated over to Everbridge, residents will need to create an Everbridge account to benefit from most of the new features. It is strongly encouraged to complete this setup by July 15th to ensure the smoothest transition. Once the transition occurs, text message alerts will come from “89361” instead of 888777.
